Ephesians 5:22-33 describes how husbands and wives are called to relate to one another in a way that glorifies God and becomes a virtuous cycle that increases marital satisfaction. In the first of two sermons on this passage, we look at how husbands can love their wives as Christ loves the church.

The biblical account of Adam and Eve’s fall represents a broken picture of marital roles, where men tend toward apathetic abdication and women toward anxious over-functioning. To remedy this, God offers us a redeemed vision in Ephesians 5, encouraging husbands and wives to trust God’s genius design by practicing sacrificial leadership and supportive respect to reflect the relationship between Christ and the church.
